Don't Dress for Dinner takes place in a restored French farmhouse, about a two-hour drive from the city. The story centers around the married couple, Bernard and Jacqueline, both of whom are having extramarital affairs. Bernard hopes to send his wife, Jacqueline, to her mother’s for the weekend, desiring a romantic weekend with his mistress, Suzanne. He also invites his friend Robert. Out of the blue, Jaqueline cancels her trip and returns home. Bernard is in a panic and is on a mission to cover his tracks through an overly complicated dinner.
When I started designing this production, I felt that it was important that we include the beam-work in our scenery. I worked closely with the lighting designer and the technical director to make certain we could achieve the effect at the Okoboji Summer Theatre.
