- Bingo: The Winning Musical
Scenic Deisgn Barefoot in the Park Freaky Friday Boeing Boeing The Penelopiad Bingo: The Winning Musical For Bingo: The Winning Musical at Okoboji Summer Theatre, I collaborated with director Tricia Brouk to craft a scenic design that brought a vibrant twist to the production. Initially envisioned as a hunting lodge, I reimagined the setting to reflect the nautical charm of the Okoboji Lakes region. The design featured rustic wooden details, maritime-inspired accents, and a playful yet cozy environment that resonated with the local audience while enhancing the comedic tone of the musical. This immersive set created a unique blend of humor and community connection, capturing the spirit of the lakeside setting. - Urinetown
Scenic Deisgn Barefoot in the Park Freaky Friday Boeing Boeing The Penelopiad Urinetown For Urinetown: The Musical, I embraced Brechtian and German Expressionist influences to create a dystopian world that reflects the play’s satirical take on power and rebellion. Moving away from the typical steampunk aesthetic, I used stark, angular concrete textures and sharp lines, inspired by The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, to establish an oppressive and distorted atmosphere. Strategic lighting, including Edison bulbs and a symbolic ghost light, added layers of meaning, highlighting themes of control and freedom. This minimalist yet intense design serves both as a visual satire and a critical reflection of societal issues. - Barefoot in the Park
Scenic Deisgn Barefoot in the Park Freaky Friday Boeing Boeing The Penelopiad Barefoot in the Park For Barefoot in the Park, I set out to capture the quaint charm of a New York apartment filled with character and history. The centerpiece of this design is a 16-foot-wide skylight window, flooding the space with natural light and adding an urban feel to the set. The combination of aged textures and carefully curated details brings warmth to the apartment, mirroring the play’s humor and romance while evoking the timeless spirit of New York City. - The Merry Wives of Windsor
Scenic Deisgn Barefoot in the Park Freaky Friday Boeing Boeing The Penelopiad The Merry Wives of Windsor For The Merry Wives of Windsor, directed by Jamey Grisham, I embraced a 1950s sitcom aesthetic, drawing inspiration from mid-century modern architecture to create a vibrant and dynamic set. To manage the play's multiple locations, I designed colorful, flying doors in red, yellow, green, blue, and violet, allowing for seamless transitions between scenes. The green door, paired with a circular green wall portal and strategic lighting, transformed into the forest setting, adding a whimsical touch to the production. This approach not only facilitated smooth scene changes but also infused the stage with the playful energy characteristic of 1950s television comedies. - Rich Girl
Scenic Deisgn Barefoot in the Park Freaky Friday Boeing Boeing The Penelopiad Rich Girl For Rich Girl, I created a sleek, modern Manhattan penthouse that reflects the characters' affluent lifestyle while subtly hinting at their internal conflicts. Inspired by contemporary real estate guides, the set captures a polished, luxurious ambiance, with carefully chosen elements like a faux palm tree that reflects Eve’s exotic taste, replaced by a seasonal tree for Christmas. This modern design allowed me to explore a minimalist aesthetic, contrasting with the complex, emotionally charged relationships that unfold within the space. - Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike
Scenic Deisgn Barefoot in the Park Freaky Friday Boeing Boeing The Penelopiad Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike For Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike, I created a scenic design that reflects the classic elegance of a Bucks County home, the setting for this comedy’s familial tensions and unexpected transformations. The porch is the focal point, serving as both a familiar and subtly confining space where the characters navigate their conflicts. The design features traditional elements like a garden bench crafted from scrap lumber, adding an authentic, lived-in quality to the set that underscores the play’s themes of nostalgia, rivalry, and self-discovery. - Not Now, Darling
Scenic Deisgn Barefoot in the Park Freaky Friday Boeing Boeing The Penelopiad Not Now, Darling For Not Now, Darling, I crafted a set that combines British architectural elegance with playful, feminine touches, capturing the humor and charm of this classic farce. Drawing inspiration from Wes Anderson’s cinematic color palette, the design introduces a vibrant and whimsical quality to the London fur salon setting. Essential elements like solid doors were integrated to support the rapid pace and comedic timing of the play, enhancing the chaotic and lively atmosphere of mistaken identities, hidden characters, and humorous misunderstandings. - Angel Street [Gas Light]
Scenic Deisgn Barefoot in the Park Freaky Friday Boeing Boeing The Penelopiad Angel Street [Gas Light] For Angel Street, I focused on bringing a richly detailed Victorian drawing room to life, enhancing the suspense and tension of Hamilton’s thriller. Working closely with the Properties team, we sourced authentic Victorian-era props and set dressing to create an atmosphere that feels both refined and unsettling. The addition of a 1930s wallpaper roller added to the period authenticity, while the modified staircase and dark, intricate details of the set highlighted the looming danger and psychological intrigue that underpin the story. - The Man of La Mancha
Scenic Deisgn Barefoot in the Park Freaky Friday Boeing Boeing The Penelopiad The Man of La Mancha For The Man of La Mancha, I embraced a found-object aesthetic to align with the director’s vision of actors performing in a warehouse space. This approach transformed the set into a collection of repurposed items, giving the environment a raw, improvisational feel that reflects the themes of imagination and resilience at the heart of the story. The design’s unconventional materials and textures reinforce the play’s exploration of idealism and grit, inviting the audience to experience the timeless tale of Don Quixote in a new, immersive light.
