Red Line Cafe

Abstract 

I was presented with the exciting challenge of designing an urban café with a sustainable focus, and I knew this was an opportunity to bring a unique vision to life. Inspired by the dynamic energy of Chicago, particularly its iconic Chicago Transit Authority (CTA), I conceptualized Red Line Café as a vibrant community hub. The design features a striking entrance with a wave-like lightbox, evoking the movement of the city, paired with railings reminiscent of the architectural lines of the John Hancock building.

Inside, I wanted to create a space that feels as lively as the city yet comfortable enough for a wide range of activities. From the CTA-inspired signage to a streamlined, minimalist coffee menu, every detail is designed for ease and flow, inviting patrons to navigate the space effortlessly. The seating is intentionally varied, accommodating everyone from solo visitors seeking a quiet corner to larger groups gathering for board games, studying, or remote work. Whether grabbing a coffee during a busy commute or unwinding with a beer after work, Red Line Café offers a flexible, welcoming environment that captures the spirit of Chicago.

This design embodies the balance between urban vitality and communal comfort, and I am confident it will leave a lasting impression on all who visit.
